I really love Christmas, but I also love Thanksgiving! Football, movies, and the menu. It is quite possibly the only holiday that everyone can agree on the menu. In a lot of ways, a marketing and communications plan is a lot like that menu.
Here are the basics:
Guest List: Who is your audience this year? Do you know what they like? When are they showing up? Bottom line: Know who you are entertaining before you set up your menu.
The Menu: This is your marketing and communication plan. This is where you spend the time prepping, researching new recipes (ie. strategies and tactics), and working on the list of what has worked so well in the past.
After you have your guest list, your menu, let’s get down to the details.
Turkey: We all know that the turkey is the main attraction on Thanksgiving Day. This is the foundation for your plan, the “messaging” if you will. From the turkey, you will decide your side dishes, drinks, and dessert. Your messaging needs to be clear, concise and strategic in order to align with your goals.
Stuffing = Social Media
Potatoes = Blog
Green Bean Casserole = External Media
Pumpkin Pie = SEO
Drinks = Advertising
Everything works and comes together to form one perfect Thanksgiving (marketing and communications plan).
Now, get up, clean the dishes and hit the couch for some football.
